Ideation
Concepts
Pencil case style organizer. With its exoskeleton, it may have been uncomfortable for the user to wear as a side bag.
I wanted the user to be able to use this as a solo bag instead of an addition to a larger bag. With its slim and light construction, this proved to be much more comfortable to wear.
Prototyping
Deciding what should and could fit in this bag, daily essentials versus one time items. Mainly figuring out scale and proportion in relation to my body. Would I want to keep it as slim as possible and have the footprint be larger; or rather stack things on top each other to keep the footprint small, but add to the overall thickness?
Final Model
Taking notes from previous models, tweaking ideas along the way all lead to this stage. After figuring out the sizing while still leaving extra room for snacks, the construction was a breeze. The user’s love of nature inspired the colorway, with smooth browns from the dirt, and blues and greys from the sky. Knowing they like to customize, I left room for decoration with pins and patches along the front.

Only want to grab your personal items? Unzip the corner and find a Velcro mesh pocket protecting your goods. Only want the sampler or your keys? Simply unzip the top section and slide your item out. Need to get a bigger item you put in the bottom pocket? Unzip the lower section and find easy access to your larger items, without unzipping the entire bag.
